Arden Holiday Cottage has everything you need to relax and unwind in peaceful surroundings. We all know how important it is to take a break once in a while and our cottage is nestled in a quiet rural location ideally situated for rambling, bird watching, cycling, climbing, horse riding and exploring.
We want you to have everything you need to make your holiday go smoothly and we provide superb (STB 4 star) accommodation with uninterrupted views over local hills and fantastic sunsets. The stunning coastline of South West Scotland is just twenty-five minutes away, where you can choose between sandy beaches or quiet coastal villages. The surrounding area is steeped in local history, with fabulous castles, abbeys, and many other visitor attractions.
We are Hester and Paul, the proud new owners of Arden Holiday Cottage and we are hoping to meet lots of new faces in 2019. We want to make our cottage your favourite bolt hole for some stress-free time and happy memories. Hester likes to spend time with the horses and enjoys finding ways to help people improve their mental health through meditation, Reiki and spending time in nature. We will be offering Chill and Breathe Breaks during the year for those who just need space to reboot.
We don’t watch TV much and would rather play board games and finding challenging Escape rooms to break out of. We have lots of games you can borrow if you don’t fancy going far and will be offering Speciality Breaks during the year such as Geek Getaways.
Arden Holiday Cottage has been equipped to a very high standard with quality fitments. We are south-west facing with ample parking, a private patio, and an enclosed garden area. The cottage sleeps five people comfortably with a double, twins, single room, bathroom, and a separate toilet and shower room. We can also provide a travel cot for the little ones. Friendly dogs are welcome, as we know they are part of the family and enjoy their holidays too!
During your visit, you may want to have some pampering to help you really chill out! We can arrange an Indian Head Treatment or a Full Body Massage. Maybe you’d like to experience a Reiki session or Guided Meditation as part of a Spiritual Chill package we offer. Just let us know when you book.
Meet the Horses
Horses are being used to help us relax and quieten our minds in our modern hectic world. Saffy, our resident cheeky pony, loves taking people’s minds off their worries by being the center of attention. Spend some time brushing and talking to Saffy then take her through her paces on the ground through her activity course which she loves to show off her horsey hoof moves in. If you have a carrot or mint in your pocket she will be very pleased!
Reiki (Ray-key) is an ancient Japanese form of natural healing. During the 1 hr (approx.) Reiki session Hester will place her hands very lightly on your body in a variety of positions. You will normally be laying down and always remain fully clothed throughout the session.
Malish Head Treatments
Malish Indian Head Massage is an Ayurvedic form of healing and relaxation used widely in Asia to combat daily tension and stress. During the 45 minute (approx.) Indian Head Massage session, Hester will massage your upper back, neck, head and face. You will normally be sitting in a chair and will always remain fully clothed throughout the session. The treatment should relieve neck and shoulder tension and help reduce headaches and sinus problems leaving you with a sense of wellbeing.
Dumfries and Galloway have exceptionally dark skies and areas have been awarded Dark Sky status due to the lack of light pollution. The cottage, being in a quiet rural location gives you the chance to view the night sky in all its glory. Budding Astronomers can use the cottages telescope to view the starry heavens.
Join Hester in a guided meditation to help you relax and de-stress. The meditation can be either inside or outside depending on your preference and the Scottish weather!

From Our Guestbook
"Had a lovely and peaceful Christmas. Deafened by the roar of silence! Fantastic stay in a warm and comfortable cottage. Looking forward to our return."
Mr. & Mrs. AC
"Well equipped, warm, clean comfortable cottage in lovely peaceful location with scenic views. Delightful open plan lounge/kitchen with everything you could need. We were a party of four adults so the separate bathroom and shower room was a bonus. Few minutes scenic drive to Dumfries made it an excellent find. As it was Christmas loved the tree and selection of board games. Welcome tray much appreciated after long drive. Host directed us to excellent restaurant with ‘Vegan Options’ overlooking the river Nith, well recommended. Will definitely be visiting again. Thank you Hester".
