Galloway Country Fair

Returns for 2022.  The event will be held at Drumlanrig Castle and Country Estate on Saturday 20th and Sunday 21st August. The fair held in the grounds of the Castle is a great day out for all including a showground with events and demonstrations, stalls, food and entertainment. And as a bonus this year they are teaming up with Defender Jam which is a sociable car show,  a fun gathering with loads to do for all the family. You don’t need to be a Land Rover owner or fan to be there, but you might leave wanting one!

Scotland's Year of Stories

Scotland’s Year of Stories 2022 celebrates stories inspired by, written, or created in Scotland.

Stories are a vital part of Scotland’s culture and every community has a different tale to tell. Shared stories, whether spoken, written, sung or filmed are what give a sense of place, history and belonging. This year you can look forward to events by community groups, museums, heritage sites and other visitor attractions with storytelling always at the heart of it. We even have a our very own Escape Room here at the cottage which celebrates  the rich history and fascinating folklore of Irongray, Dumfries and Galloway, and the hills and glens of Scotland.

Scotland's Gardens

Many of our guests come for the peace and tranquility of the cottage surroundings and the beautiful countryside that surrounds us. Dumfries & Galloway has a temperate climate leading to some beautiful gardens springing up which have become part of the open garden scheme. If you enjoy having a nosey around other people’s gardens, then the cottage is an ideal base to explore the many green fingered creations in the area that have been opened up as part of this scheme. Some are only a 10 minute drive from the cottage. The scheme runs from June to the end of September.
